South Birmingham PCT commissions services for a population of 383,000, as well as providing primary care services for the local population and specialist services for a wider population.

There are many advances in the local health services, which means we can offer more advice and treatment at local health surgeries, pharmacists and clinics. Our Primary Care Services include 64 GP practices, 70 General Dental Practitioners, 85 local Pharmacists, and 51 local Opticians. We try to keep health care close to home and we also offer a range of nursing and therapy services to support this through the local GP.

Public health is an important role for the Primary Care Trust. We look at the health of the entire local population and address issues specific to our area. Public health issues include poverty, obesity, diet, exercise, smoking and other factors which impact on health.
